Runners United Nevada was founded by a group of local runners in 2018 in an attempt to build community and increase engagement with local runners. We established ourselves as a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization as a mechanism to organize races in support of local community organizations.

In 2020, the group organized the inaugural RUN Nevada Race Series. Despite operating in the midst of a global pandemic, the series was a huge success, with record-breaking turn out for each of the previously established events and a highly successful debut of a fourth race. The series will return in 2021, with four races:

RUN Country Fest & 5k

Nevada’s newest running event, the RUN Country Fest & 5k made its debut in 2020. Originally scheduled for May, the inaugural event was postponed to October due to the Covid 19 global pandemic. Headlined by Neil Hewitt, with openers Chris Patterson and Spencer Braly, the event provided a fun afternoon of running and live music. The event will return to its originally intended month in 2021, with country star Bryan White participating in the 5k prior to headlining the post race concert. Proceeds from this event are donated to The Nevada Foundation.

Story County Freedom Run

The Story County Freedom Run was founded in 2014 in an effort to raise money for the Story County Freedom Flight. Though it was originally organized by the Story County Republicans, elected officials from across the political spectrum have participated through the years. In 2017, organizational capacity transitioned to an independent committee before finding its home under the RUN umbrella in 2018. Participants through the years have enjoyed the accompanying post-race pancake breakfast. In its first seven years, the race raised over $20,000 for the Story County Freedom Flight organization. The event now has focused its attention to benefitting a variety of local veteran causes.

Lincoln Highway Dash

Originally organized by the Nevada Chamber of Commerce, the Lincoln Highway Dash has been a staple in the Nevada community since 2013. From 2013 through 2018, the race was held on the Friday night of Lincoln Highway Days, Nevada’s annual celebration of its heritage as a community along Lincoln Highway. In 2019, the race was moved to Saturday morning, starting at Score Park and finishing on Lincoln Highway in front of Nevada’s City Hall, right as community members were lining the streets prior to the Lincoln Highway Days parade. The event raises funds in support of Main Street Nevada.

Evergreen Lane History Hustle

The Evergreen Lane History Hustle and Chili Cook Off made its debut in 2019. This 5k begins and ends at scenic Briggs Terrace at Evergreen Lane. All proceeds raised benefit the Nevada Community Historical Society, which is committed to preserving the history of our community. In addition to the 5k race, there is a post race chili cook off, and the Historical Society offered tours of their various properties at Evergreen Lane.
